8th Annual Fort Hawkins Fourth of July Celebration, Sunday, July 4, 2010, 12:00 - 5:00 p.m., Emery Highway, Macon, GA - Free Admission
The Fort Hawkins Commission presents its annual Fourth at the Fort Celebration and Benefit BBQ Dinner at the Blockhouse Replica. All three stories of the Blockhouse will be open for touring as well as the archaeological dig site along with free lemonade and cookies plus fiddle music with popular local musician Sue Tomlin and her daughter, Karen. Col. Benjamin Hawkins in his American Revolutionary uniform will present a patriotic program at 2:00 p.m. which will include his service on Gen. George Washington's staff and the fort's role in the War of 1812, the 2nd War for American Independence, concluding with the original Star Spangled Banner poem as that 15 starred flag flies proudly over the 200 year old fort site and Macon's Birthplace. Benefit BBQ plates, featuring famous Fresh Air BBQ, are only $12.50 each and will be served from 1-4 p.m. with tickets available from all Fort Hawkins Commission members or by calling 478-742-3003 |
