Col. Hawkins Invites All To Have A Ball At The Fort On The Fourth!

Col. Benjamin Hawkins would like to let the public know they can truly have a ball at Fort Hawkins this Sunday, July 4th, 2010 with history, music, refreshments, and tasty BBQ. The 8th Annual Fort Hawkins Fourth of July Celebration is sponsored by the Fort Hawkins Commission, the all-volunteer, non-funded, official City Commission preserving and promoting the amazing early American history at the 200 year old U.S. Army frontier fort and "Macon's Birthplace." The three story Blockhouse replica and archaeological dig site will be open for tours from 12:00 Noon until 5:00 p.m. with free admission and free lemonade and cookies. Noted Macon musician, Sue Tomlin, and her daughter Karen will be entertaining with popular and partriotic fiddle music while the Commission serves up at the fort site some delicious and famous Fresh Air BBQ as a fund raising benefit from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Benefit BBQ tickets are only $12.50 and are available from any Commission member. At 2:00 pm Col. Hawkins, in his American Revolutiuonary uniform, will ring in America's birthday while relating his experience on Gen. George Washington's staff and the events during the Second War of Independence, the War of 1812, that created the Star Spangled Banner - the very fly flying over the fort on the 4th! Although you really can't have the actual cannonball, you will have a patriotic ball on the 4th at the fort and you don't even have to cook that day with the benefit BBQ dinner being offered. Even if you can't come to the fort, Col. Hawkins suggests purchasing tickets as a donation to benefit the noble efforts of the Fort Hawkins Commission in securing the future of this early American historic site that served the nation so well over 200 years ago - just like the Col. himself. Col. Hawkins added: " I look forward to meeting and greeting the kind folks attending the July 4th Celebration and to share some real history and some real surprises about about proud cultural heritage in Middle Georgia!"
