There is some scientific "meaning to your madness"
Klatsky, and others have argued that the alcohol in wine is responsible for > or = to 50 % of the health benefits of wine. An increase in HDL (good) cholesterol is seen with all alcohol, and not unique to wine. In several studies, including some from my works, the benefits may be seen such that red wine > white wine > spirits. So you are in fact partly correct. Alcohol in moderation, as wine in moderation can be a part of a healthy lifestyle. Fortified wines, that is wines with unnaturally higher alcohol levels are however at greater risk for abuse, other adverse effects, and "culturally unacceptable" consumer habits. The later is my oppinion only! Cheers, and thanks for the input! |
