I was pulled over for bumper sticker and license plate profiling in New Jersey on my way for an afternoon trip from Baltimore to Atlantic City with my bg, his gf, and mine (at the time).
We were going about the speed limit in a normal looking Jimmy, and a cop going the opposite direction flips a screeching U-turn, pulls me over and proceeds to intimidate me and pressuring us to let us search the car. They wouldn't really answer any of my questions about why were pulled over.
We let him search the car and stood by the side of the road sweating. Without asking for consent and no arrest, he frisked both of our girlfriends roughly (which is very illegal) I asked one officer why we were pulled over. He told me that it was odd that I was driving a car in New Jersey with a Colorado license plate. Worth flipping a U on the highway weird? I explained to him that I was a Maryland resident who was on Summer break from University of Colorado driving a car owned by my parents. They were sure they had us. They drug bust of the year. One officer even told me that it's too suspicious with the out of state plates on one of the biggest drug trafficking routes on the east coast. I looked him in the eye and sarcastically remarked that there are hardly any out of staters commuting to Atlantic City on a daily basis.
They found nothing, we went free (with a ticket!). My recommendation is don't have long hair and a west coast-ish license plate if you're driving in:
