When the panniers from Arkel arrived my Catrike had already been boxed. As a result, I ended not being able to properly determine the total weight I would end up carrying. The RT-60s from Arkel are great. But, since one can carry so much stuff one tends to do exactly that. And the road punishes for those miscalculations. By the time I arrive to Davis, CA on my 2nd day, I realized I needed to reduce the cargo I was carrying. Overloaded as I was the Sierras could defeat me. So... I went on the UPS diet and lost 42 pounds by shipping excess equipment to a UPS store in Pueblo, Colorado for later pick-up. The panniers were shipped as well and part of my camping gear. Climbing the mountain with such weight would have been insane. By the time I arrived to Placerville, CA I bought a lighter tent which I used for the first time on day 6, the night at Cooks Station.
I hope this answers the riddle.

Rafael Giraldo

Looking at the photo'.s , after leaving Davis there seem's to have been a major change in the equipment being carried,
The Trike section of your " followers " have members that are experienced in cycle-campimg , so the guessing game has started , can any one give us a update before the rest day ?
Take it easy on the hills ,as you do not want to strain any thing before you get to the mountains !
Is any one else shouting directions at their computer screen ?
