The Church asks the faithful to make this season of Lent a season of prayer. It is a call for all of us to go the extra step in our prayer lives and that can be praying a rosary, making a holy hour, going to Mass, or even simply trying to say one short prayer a day. The Church doesn’t force people to pray but she highly recommends that during Lent we try to cultivate a habit of prayer during this time because we in a time of waiting. These 40 days are a journey to Jesus’s Passion, Crucifixion, and his triumphant Resurrection. If we are serious about this celebration then the best way to make the most of this to develop your relationship with the one who died for you and defeated death.

As said in previous Faith Matters, prayer is simply a conversation and a relationship with our heavenly Father. If you find that you are having a hard time praying, or do not feel that you have any time to pray, talk with a priest or one of the deacons and try to develop your prayer life. Sometimes people do confuse prayer with outward signs or words but we must never forget what Christ teaches us in the Gospel, “when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you” (Mt 6:5).
