Every year, thousands of youth receive the sacrament of Confirmation. The purpose of this sacrament is to recognize these children as young adults in the faith. The Godparents take a step back, as the children confess their belief in Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. They take ownership of the promises which were made on their behalf at Baptism. Rather than pursuing a relationship with God, some are distracted by things of the world. They squander the inheritance they received. Many return to the church when they marry or have children. Some do not. Just as the Father waits for the Prodigal Son to return, so we wait for our children to repent and to return to the faith.
