is the place to be September 1 - 7, 2010!

The Sheraton Station Square is the host hotel for Amphibs Week events! This hotel is very well maintained, clean, neat and has a wonderful atmosphere of welcome for you Sailors and your wives. The staff is anxious to please and look forward to our visit. It promises to be an outstanding visit to Pittsburgh and LST 325!

The room rates are $85.00 per night plus tax, we have received a reduced rate on parking, and will have our banquet on Monday evening. The hospitality room will be open every day; Jo and Steve Watt are working hard on making it a place that you can relax, swap sea stories, meet old friends and make new ones. The Sheraton wants to make sure we have a wonderful event and will make every effort to assure we are all comfortable and well cared for.

The hotel itself is in the same block as the train station - many of you who picked up your LSTs at AmBridge or Dravo probably came through that station! There are many restaurants of various price ranges within a block of the hotel and of course the hotel has a dining room of it's own. There is also a coffee stand that sells coffee, juices, bagels and danish and other items. A small gift shop is near the coffee shop. There is a Subway Sandwich shop, the Hard Rock Cafe and a little Restaurant called Island House that are all within a 1/2 block of the hotel if you want a change from the hotel dining facilities. For hotel amenities, please see the link below.

Attendees can now call in to reserve guest rooms. The system is set up to call the room block LST 325 AMPHIBS WEEK. BE SURE YOU SPECIFY LST 325 AMPHIBS WEEK to get the group rate. Call 1-800-325-3535 to make reservations. Everyone makes their own hotel reservations, it is NOT going to be listed on the Activities Itinerary as an option, only the registration and tour packages. (Tour information will be coming out soon and we'll have a registration form placed on the website. We're waiting on pricing for one or two events and then that can be published.)

Please note that Amphibs Week will run from September 1 - 6; IF approved, River Cruises will take place September 7th. The ship will be open for tours the entire stay in Pittsburgh, so the crew members will be busy! The people of Pittsburgh are excited to have LST 325 visit and are looking forward to sharing everything Pittsburgh has to offer!

On May 21, 2005 a monument was unveiled in Seneca, Illinois, dedicated to all the workers, who built 157 LSTs at the Seneca “Prairie Shipyard” as well as all those who served on any LST during World War II, Korea, and Viet Nam. The monument contains seals of the US Navy, the US Coast Guard, the British LST Association, and the sponsoring organization, the Illinois LST Association. The monument contains a sculpture of an LST on top of the gray marble center section. On the two flanking black marble sections are etchings of an LST being launched, an LST beached and unloading its cargo of tanks, and a woman shipyard welder. On the sides of the black sections all 157 LSTs constructed at Seneca are listed The monument stands in Crotty Park in Seneca, on property adjacent to the old Chicago Bridge and Iron shipyard. Approximately 500 people from all over the country and Great Britain attended the dedication. After the dedication, approximately 200 of those in attendance gathered together for a catered lunch. About 27,000 people worked at the shipyard during World War II. A number of those and/or their descendants attended the ceremony. They are rightly proud of their contribution to the war effort, as is the city of Seneca, Illinois, the home of the “Prairie Shipyard”.

During World War 2 there were 1051 LST's (Landing Ship Tank) built to carry troops and supplies to American and Allied troops fighting in Europe and the Pacific theaters. When WW2 ended most of the LST's were scrapped, modified, or given to Navies of other countries. Some remained in service and saw action in Korea, Viet Nam, and even the Cuban Blockade.

A few WW2 type LST's remain in service today, but not in the USA.
