 Subject: swelling and pain on top of foot near toes

anyone ever have pain and swelling on the top of the foot near the toes?
i can't identify the cause but the foor swelling feels like someone put a gel pad into the top of my foot. shoes are uncomfortable and i don't have a clue what to do
