I have had several acute gout attacks over the past 15 or so years. I have recently changed my eating habbits and started running again. I have since stopped taking the medication that kept the gout under control (alopurinol and colchicine). When I go for a run, I feel pain in the upper right middle part of my foot (around the 3rd and 4th metatarcal?). In the past, this is where I would experience the most pain during a gout attack. It feels like the bones are rubbing together. Is this damage resulting from the past gout attacks? What can I do to stop the pain so I can continue running? Do I need surgery?
Thank you for your advice in this matter. |
