So, I have an individual who is being disqualified submarines due to a medical condition (Asthma). Based on that he is unable to continue in the US Navy as an MT(Submarine Rate) and is being force converted (rate to be determined). He has nearly 2 years experience as a CCC and desires to convert to NC.
I recoginize that force conversion to NC is not typically approved. Presumably that is because NC is a rate that represents the Navy to others either in or out of the service. A forced conversion would seem to imply that the individual did not meet the standards of a role model sailor but in the case of a medical reason that doesnt prevent surface deployment, I dont see how that would apply. In all other respects the individual is a good sailor, great evals, no NJPs, excellent history in the Navy. If it were a regular conversion based on desire instead of dictated by medical disqualification it seems like he would have a better chance and that confuses me a little.
Is there some sort of closer look that could be afforded him instead so that evaluators could see past the "Forced" part of the conversion or is it Black and White like that and no budging? |
