Dear Sir or Madam,
I thought your members might be interested in an endeavor to honor the 82nd airborne. Anyway you could get the word out about our “Return to Normandy” mission will be greatly appreciated.
The National Warplane Museum has an original C47 that was the lead aircraft on the second wave of D-Day, dropping 82nd airborne troops. The plane not only survived the mission and returned home, but has been kept operational and is still flying today! The National Warplane Museum has volunteers that have been maintaining and flying the aircraft to air shows around the country to tell the story. Now they have an even more ambitious plan...
They are hoping to make a tribute flight with the original plane and a volunteer crew back to Normandy next year for the 70th Anniversary of the mission. They want to drop a jump team over the original drop zone to honor the surviving World War Two veterans who hope to be there, as well as all of the other servicemen and women of the armed forces- some of whom paid the ultimate price for their country on that day and are buried there in France.
To find out more or to donate to help this mission please visit www.normandy2014.blogspot.com. We are also holding a drawing for airfare to France for the 70th anniversary, information is available at our website
Sincerely,
Gary Mitchell
