I thought it might be a good time to bring up the Airline industry and the effect years of losses are having on us. It seems airlines are now limiting coach class travelers to 50lbs per bag and a total of 2 bags with each ticket. They’re going to allow 40lbs for carry on one piece plus personal item. Well this will be a set back for a lot of traveling divers! Most of us travel with 40lbs to 60lbs in just dive gear. Add cameras, cloths, Cave lights, Housings and all the stuff we absolutely must have for a week or two in fare off places. So what do we do? Can we ship, pay over weight fees, or ship equipment via UPS etc.?
It is going to take the dress shirt idea out of a lot of peoples vocabulary. Two Speedos, a micro towel, two t-shirts, flip-flops and the shoes on your feet is what is coming to! No more bringing back souvenirs, which will hurt the locals feelings, or a better policy about bags and weight? I will pay $50.00 round trip for the ability to take what I need. I have been traveling for some time often alone with to Pelican cases aprox. 68lbs each a carry on Pelican case and a backpack. I can pack for two to three weeks very efficiently and could stay longer if I use laundry services. Take this as a heads up or a place to start, but it is something we need to deal with or start a dialog on!
