This is a very sad situation when a priest does not understand the latin mass. It is also in the document that the Pope recently issued, and I am roughly summarizing this, that priests SHOULD say the mass if y'all have a steady group of people that would go to it. If there is a problem, this should be referred to the local bishop, and in extrme cases to the archbishop, and in REALLY extreme cases to the Holy See. Again, this isnt word for word, but hopefully you get the idea. Your priest is one of two things, a good man who just needs to know how to say the latin mass, or a liberal modernist who you will never change.
