2/24/2023: An independent ghost hunter named David Spencer from Redding contacted me today and told me of an unusual ghost sighting on Waldo Road in Yuba County. The sighting took place close to Waldo Junction, near Waldo Bridge over Dry Creek, very close to Spenceville State Wildlife Area. David was visiting friends in Yuba City and Marysville. One of his friends said that he encountered a ghostly cowboy driving what appeared to be a stagecoach. The stagecoach was only visible from the top half and the bottom half was gone. The cowboy was completely visible and in front of him, was the head of a horse, but the bottom half of the horse was gone. David's friend knew he was looking at a ghost that appeared to be driving a stagecoach. David's friend says that the whole area at Waldo Junction is haunted. David's friend watched this apparition for about 10 seconds and then it faded away into nothingness.

David went to the location and his EMF detector went crazy on one section of the road. David did several EVP sessions and obtained an EVP of a man saying his name was Big Dave. Another EVP David obtained was a man saying: "Fish or Cut Bait". David is confused about the 2nd EVP that he captured. David is not sure what "fish or cut bait" means. On one of David's photographs in the area, he captured a "mist" in his photo.

David did some research and believes the sighting at Waldo Junction and the EVPs were of an outlaw/sheriff named Big Dave C. Updyke. Big Dave went to California in 1855. Big Dave lived in Yuba County for 2 years as a stagecoach driver and lived in Virginia City, Nevada for 2 years. Big Dave was an outlaw sheriff in Ada County, Idaho. Big Dave drove stagecoaches in Yuba County and in Nevada. Big Dave also owned a livery stable and at his livery stable, many outlaws hung out at. There were so many outlaws that hung out at Dave's livery stable, that the locals called them Updyke's Gang. The Payette Vigilantes were targeted by Big Dave. His plan was to arrest each one of them and then murder them and say it was self-defense. Things didn't work out that way and the Payette Vigilantes went after Big Dave and his buddy John Dixon for the murder of 4 passengers of a stagecoach at Portneuf Canyon and stole $86,000.00 worth of gold. The vigilantes hung Big Dave and John Dixon for their crimes and left a note on Big Dave explaining why he was executed by hanging. To this day, they believe that Big Dave's gold is buried somewhere at the City of Rocks in Idaho.

Perhaps, just perhaps Big Dave has some gold at Waldo Junction in Yuba County and that is why some people see his ghost. When I get back in the area of Yuba City, I will head over to Waldo Junction and see what kind of evidence I can obtain at Waldo Road. I also would like to investigate the Waldo Bridge over Dry Creek. Abby Stinson, a resident of Yuba City has seen a female spirit gliding along the bridge and she was in a long brownish robe. Some of the locals call her "The Lost Lady of Waldo Bridge" and some locals have heard her weeping. Some locals theorize she committed suicide at the bridge, by jumping off the bridge.
