Group helps kids
removed from homes
It was a pleasure to read the recent
FLORIDA TODAY article “Foster kids going
to camp,” about professional athletes
helping foster children.
We Guardians ad Litem benefit from a
wonderful nonprofit organization
associated with us, Friends of Children of
Brevard, whose mission is to help every
child in need in Brevard County’s Guardian
ad Litem Program, which is an advocate for
abused and neglected children in the court
Most of these innocent children have been
placed with relatives, many of whom are in
dire need of funds to help them care for
the children and are not equipped with
clothing or beds for the sudden arrival of
Friends has helped many of these children
through the Guardians ad Litem.
Some of the requests that Friends has
fulfilled for my own cases have been money
for diapers, a bike for a boy to ride to
school and camp for children traumatized
by the events that caused their removal
from their homes. They have provided
other children with beds or cribs.
Friends’ latest project is to provide a back-
to-school clothing outfit to each school-a
ged child who has been placed with
