Advent: Dreams, Potential and Possibilities
Good Saint Pope John XXIII said, "Consult not your fears but your hopes and your dreams. Think not about your frustrations, but about your unfulfilled potential. Concern yourself not with what you tried and failed in, but with what it is still possible for you to do." This Advent, as we prepare for the coming of Jesus, both now and at the end of time, why not take the opportunity to do some self-reflection on Saint John XXIII's counsel?
Dreams: Are we so wrapped up in "catching up" that we fail to attend to our dreams, putting them aside for the day when our 'to-do' list is complete? Put your worry aside and try to focus on what you dream your life to be. Make a solid attempt to move step-by-step toward those dreams each day.
Potential: So, life sends us lemons. What else is new? It is so easy to blame it all on our bad luck, but what would it be like if we dug deeper into our inner life, and tapped into a strength to overcome the stupid stuff, as if there were no tomorrow?
Possibilities: We have failed in so many things-so what? The world did not end. God still loves us tremendously. Stop wasting time on reliving failures and faults, and start being proactive with what and how we can make things happen in the present moment.
Advent is a beautiful time that comes and goes quickly in the swamped season before Christmas. Pray this Advent for the strength to be present to yourself: your outstanding dreams, your boundless potential and the endless possibilities of great things that lie in your future. May Saint John XXIII bless your endeavors by making it a joyous Advent! Come, Lord Jesus, and do not tarry!
