Hi Drs.,
I'm a previous patient of yours (32 years old, unexplained female factor infertility) who now has a gorgeous 5 month old boy thanks to your help and a few rounds of IUI with injectibles. Thank you!!
However, my son was born at 24 weeks, and although he's doing extremely well after a 4 month stay in the NICU, we obviously want to avoid a second preterm birth (We are thinking about starting up fertility treatments again within the next year). So I have 2 questions I hope you can answer:
(1) Do you work with NJPA down the hall at any point during fertility treatments when you know ahead of time that the pregnancy, once achieved, will be treated as a high risk pregnancy? Or should I consult with them before coming back to you? After we start fertility treatments again?
(2) In the event that we want to avoid conceiving multiples due to the increased risk for preterm birth, would you consider skipping IUI treatments and going straight to single egg implantation through IVF? (I realize there is still a possibility of multiples even with just one egg being implanted, but I assume there is a much lower occurrence than when 2-3 eggs are implanted).
Thanks so much for any insight you can offer!!
