I have a 12 year old daughter who I suspect has Cushings. She has the moon face, excess weight in her upper body, striae that have just developed around her waist, upper arms and inner thighs. She was "tested" at her pediatrician's office several years ago as part of a weight loss program, but was "negative." From what I've read it can be difficult to diagnose, certainly with just a single blood cortisol level. I am heartbroken for her as she gets teased at school, and can't wear "normal" clothes. In one sense, I hope she does have Cushings, but I am very conflicted. I talked to her about it, and her response was, "I don't want to get my hopes up that I could someday look normal." That is heartbreaking. |
