Hi, I'm a 23 year old female. About 3 years ago I developed corns on the inside of the small toes of both of my feet, and adjacently on the second toe where the toes make contact. If I put pressure on the small toes, I can feel a hard point in the bone. I thought it was ill-fitting shoes so I stopped wearing them. However, I've bought several different pairs since then, including shoes made completely of canvas that stretch to allow for the width of my foot - which I don't think is unusually large or large at all. (I have a small frame, 5'3'' and 110lbs.)

I've tried everything since then - inserts with arch support, acid to remove the corns, cutting them off completely (I know it's bad), pads and discs, with no success.

They are quite painful, and over the years I'm finding my feet becoming very painful overall. I work part time (24hrs a week) as a cashier and am on my feet most of the time. By the end of the night I find it excrutiating to stand. If I keep moving, it seems alright -- not great. Now I find that my weight is on the ball of my right foot and in both feet i seem to center my stance to the inner part of my foot causing both arches to collapse slightly, the right more than the left. Both small toes are bigger in width than my other little toes, red, painful to the touch, and when I try to bend my toes the little ones only bend slightly and have that white-knuckle effect.

Unfortunately, Rheumatoid Arthritis runs in my family but I'm wondering if it is more likely that it is just a foot-related problem rather than an autoimmune disease. I'm planning on scheduling an appointment with my doctor, but it will be weeks, and lately my feet have been more painful than usual...any insight is appreciated much!

Thank you!
