Hi, although I plan on making an appt with a podiatrist (I wear orthotics for about 8 months now, to help alleviate a callous, so I have a podiatrist...), I'd like to get your kind thoughts on a recent change in my right foot, which is alarming to me:

About 5 days ago, all of a sudden I got a very sharp pain in the bottom of my foot, about 1 inch "south" of my 2nd toe (the toe adjacent to my big toe). The pain is intense at times, when I walk, but almost non-existent when I am not weight bearing. The 2nd toe itself is somewhat tender to the touch, but not as much as this one particular spot, just to the side of the ball of my foot, but not on the ball. The pain is on the bottom of the foot, with maybe a little referred pain on the top. I notice no swelling or redness on the foot.

In research the internet, I wonder whether I have either a stress fracture or a morton's neuroma, except I don't have much pain on the top of my foot (some referred pain, I guess), and the pain is not near the 3rd and 4th toes of my foot (morton's thing). So, I dunno what it is, but it's not minor. I have it whether I use my orthotics or not, shoes or barefoot. While I realize that my podiatrist, first-hand is the best person to make the diagnosis, I was still curious as to what you think this condition is...assuming I have given sufficient information.

In addition, but I would guess is a separate issue, is cracking of the skin on the bottom of the same foot, but the crack is not in the same exact place as the pain to which I refer above.

thanks much.
