I am due to have hammer toe surgery on the second toe on both feet due to painful calluses on the ball of my feet as well as I have an extra piece of bone on both of my big toes that has to be scraped off as it is causing me pain and calluses on the underside of my big toes.
1. What is the best route to find out if my Dr. is a good surgeon?
2. Which form of hammer toe surgery has less chances of complications - fusing the bones or leaving a space between that will fill up with fibrous tissue? I heard that in some cases the toe may heal in an elevated position and it will never touch the ground thus leading to balance problems. Which surgery would most likely cause this condition.
I am just a little worried. I want to fix my feet but am a little afraid of problems that could arise.
