To Rory Wicks. Bing surf team at Olowalu? That was me, Tom Warren, Craig Forrest, and Steve Barger. NO ONE ELSE!
I would love to talk "Reality" regarding the evolution of the Augaboard, which was, yes, spawned from Bing's shop (Among many other great designs),and the story, of which, I remain an integral part. Steve remains, not wanting to get into the "Limelight" but I can assure you, WE, for too many years to think about, developed the Augaboard with heart and soul. I can easily introduce you to many, many People ,including Gerry Lopez, among others, who saw, and remember our efforts. (And some pretty good surfing! WAY before it's time!) I would truly appreciate your passing this on to Bing, and anyone else, who, once we "Took off",really weren't there. It's obvious, that a new article is sought after.I'm not going to offer you anymore of my knowlege of "Turned downed rails" or the newly hugged term "Displacement Hulls." We surfed with George at Rincon, when "Miki", was "Mickey." (PS) None of you even know what Auga means! We do!
Enough! If you really are interested in the truth, call me anytime 808-661-4522 or my E- mail Keep surfing! Tom Warren

I lived in the South Bay area of Los Angeles, surfing at either 14th Street, Hermosa Beach, or in front of my parents' home at the Manhattan Beach pier, when the Auga first showed its finless, unusual concave bottom. Given Bing's creativity, I have no doubt he created it. My dim recollection has been proved off by months by Bing's detailed business records, but I do recall guys from Bing's team riding the Auga in a crouched down style, doing endless spinners at some point in the early '70s.
Truly futuristic!
I then spent summer 1975 in Lahaina, working at Lahaina Guitar, and saw several former-Bing team guys continuing their improvisations, to my recollection, at Olawalu.
I believe that Dale Simonson of mat and finless fame has a collection of great stories about the Auga.
Bing, this board should have been discussed in the book. Perhaps Paul can add it to the second edition.
I am so lucky to have been a Bing guy from grade school through winter 1973-1974.
