First of all, though you appear to be speaking of an area much lower than the calf, it cannot be overlooked that actual calf pain can be symptomatic of a both a potentially serious deep vein thrombosis which could lead to a life-threatening pulmonary embolism, and severe arterial insufficiency, which could lead to the need for even amputation of a limb. So, certainly, these conditions should first be ruled out. But as far as what is or what is not appropriate for treatment of your stated symptoms, that would depend completely on their cause as determined by a qualified doctor on physical examination. Making a blind guessing list is easy, but potentially more harmful than helpful, as it could well lead you down the wrong or even dangerous path. As far as acupuncture is concerned, although there are some who speak highly of it for a variety of seemingly unassociated conditions, I am not one it its advocates. As you live and work in China, I think that there are likely far more practitioners there who might advise you specifically on the virtues of this technique. |
