For some time, I've had pain in my right heel. (Not my left.) I'd had plantar facitis before and already had orthotics, but it had been a few years, so I saw a foot doctor. An x-ray revealed nothing so he diagosed me with Plantar facitis, ordered new orthotics (which put me 2 sizes bigger in my shoes) and prescribed anti-inflamatories. Nothing has really worked.
Now he's talking about surgery to cut the tendon. I'm a bit uneasy about this, party because of the time commitment, but also because I'm not 100 percent sure that's what the problem is. When I had P.F. before, the orthotics did wonders. Now . . . it's like all they do is make me wear bigger shoes!
The pain is toward the back of the foot, and wraps around up toward my ankle. I've seen diagrams, and it looks like the pain is coming from the achiles tendon. In addition, I fell and injured my leg last year, got an MRI on the knee and was told I had a cartilage tear behind my kneecap. Same leg. Could these two problems be related somehow?
Bottom line . . . do I need a second opinion? |
