Yes I agree Tim. I think part of the problem is that the film based market had become saturated. Most people had already bought the equipment they needed. Young people just coming into photography live in a digital world and digital cameras appeal to their way of life. It is very complicated. However, I do beleive that your average consumer now has a serious choice. They can buy a point and shoot snap shot digital camera or buy a camera phone. It does not make sense to carry both particularly if camera phones start to produce better photographs. Of course this will not satisfy the serious photographer who will still want a top end digital SLR. My wife posed a good question today. She wondered if students studying photography at college still use film based equipment or have they gone digital. Fact is I don't know. |
