Tom Gintjee (HQ Co 1/508th) was a highly talented cartoonist and designed the original 508th Red Devil logo. He went on to produce many pieces of art for the regiment such as those used for seating or table placards at many reunions.
Tom Gintjee enjoyed celebrating his birthday each year because he said it "proved the government wrong ... again!"
In June of 1944 his mother Martha received a telegram that stated: "THE SECRETARY OF WAR DESIRES TO EXPRESS HIS DEEP REGRETS THAT YOUR SON CORPORAL THOMAS T. GINTJEE WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON SIX JUNE IN FRANCE. LETTER FOLLOWS ="
