I posted this on the newer "improved" message board but as that site tried to upload malware 4 times so far I thought I'd avoid it and ask here too.

Wheel weight lead is totally drying up, probably some new federal program to save the freaking condors which as we all know chase cars and eat the lead weights off of the wheels. (In reality they eat lead paint off of government buildings)

I need a new source for casting. I'm wondering if scavenging from the pistol range berm would be ok. I'm not talking about digging holes, just scooping about the top inch into a sifter box and putting the dirt and rocks exactly back where I got it and keeping the lead. It's soft but you can make a really nice alloy with about 20 lbs of soft lead and about a pound of superhard (from rotometals) I used to use it with soft lead I could get from the local hospital (that dried up too).

I see people picking around out there, and I usually go downrange and set some unbroken clays up to plink at for fun. There is a ton of good lead sitting right on the surface.

Any input would be great, I'm not sure who to ask about this in the directory and I haven't seen a range officer for the last 3 or 4 trips in. You can email me if you want too, davidbgreene.dg@gmail.com

Thanks and happy shooting
