Another over the top piece of legislation, attempting to make its way through the PA House (currently under review by the Judiciary) brought to you courtesy of Tom Murt(R-Montgomery).
In its current form, the bill would:
- Mandate Commonwealth residents desiring to purchase
ammunition obtain a four-year $50 permit. Permit
applications could take 30 days to process. Purchases
would be subject to tracking with buyer information
retained in a central database.
- Mandate a $3 state surcharge for ammunition purchases.
- No online ammunition sales with direct delivery to
non-licensed individual residents of the Commonwealth.
Ammunition could only be purchased online if it is
delivered to a licensed importer, manufacturer or dealer.
- Commonwealth residents would be prohibited from legally
transporting ammunition acquired outside of its borders
into Pennsylvania unless they have a licensed dealer
facilitate the transfer.
- Violators are subject to a possible second-degree felony
punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to
$25,000.
With recent recommendations for "social distancing" given COVID-19, I suggest all members take the time to contact their state representative, as well as Rep. Murt, and respectfully express their concerns regarding this legislative overreach.
