This Months tip is “know where your flash will hit”. I have noticed that many novice photographers will not reposition their Strobe or Strobes towards the subject matter, but it just points the last place it was set. Make a habit out of checking your Strobe position on every shot. Know the distance that you Strobe will be effective at. If you can control your Strobe learn through practice what setting will put you in the middle range. So that if you only have one shot it will have the best chance of not being over or underexposed. If you have the time with your subject try bracketing your with different power settings and different angles. At times you may want to remove your strobe and hold it to the side or from an angle impossible when attached to the camera. Remember the more angle from 90degrees from the lens the least chance of Back Scatter. You never want the flash in line with the lens, this lights up the suspended particles in every body of water. Also the closer you get the lest Back Scatter you will have to deal with being fewer particles in a closer distance to the lens and more angle on your flash as well. This subject has to bring us back to basic dive skills as well, the less you kick up the less you have to deal with! Go slow and be a better diver.
