For starters, I have two girls and thus have been involved in girls sports for along time. It is to bad that our bay girls got gyped. My colleen who graduated this year from River was part of a class of girls who toatally dominated the class is all aspects including sports. She earned two varsity letters in track her first two years and we found out she hated it. Was apretty good distance runner, but was not fast and her true passion was soccer and her lack of speed kept her from being pretty good. Now Kim Craigs kids were a different story. In particular her older daughter was unbelievable. She was mvp in the state as she led the Rockets to the State championship. I saw her play many matches and she was a monster on the field.
I also saw my daughter in 7th and 8th grade gasketball team win 35 games in a row. Beating Bay 6 times in a row. I will tell you a story. I missed my daughters Catholic Confirmation which back in the day was real big, not so much today. I was on a golf and gambling trip and the only reason my daughter was mad is that she knew I was having more fun than her. I told this to someone and they said to me, "How can you miss your childs Confirmation, you must be a terrible Dad?" and I replied well I will tell you what, I may have missed her confirmation, but I did go to all 17 of her freshman basketball games home and away and you just ask her what is more important.
The bottom line is simply that women got a raw deal back when we were in school. Again it is a credit to class of 69 that all of you ladies overcame such a difficult situation and became the standout women you are today. |
