A cheilectomy has very defined limits of usefulness, and its appropriate use is predicated on the existence of adequate joint cartilage. When inappropriately employed it is just about always doomed to failure. At this point, as you have already had a joint destructive procedure with the implant, the only surgical route to go would be the fusion. Whether or not a pelvic graft will be needed is the surgeon's decision.

The specific questions which you ask as to what procedure will be done, the anticipated post-operative pain and the followup care are all ones which not only are best answered by your own doctor but are very likely ONLY answerable by him/her, as what really matters is what your doctor's intentions are and his/her personal experience has been with the procedure . . all of which may be quite different from what another patient has experienced.

It would be a good idea for you to learn as much about the procedure as you can so that you might ask your doctor intelligent questions, but the specific questions you ask here should be answered only by him/her or whomever will do the procedure.
