I am having difficulty visualizing what you mean by "a horse shoe shaped thickening of the skin which extends from the big toe to the third toe," so I am unable to say what it might be or what might be appropriate to do for it. Perhaps you are speaking of a ridge-like callous that sometimes forms on the ball of the foot just proximal to the toe crest, but I don't know. The aforementioned callous does sometimes becomes inflammed and painful. Normally callouses form on the sole of the feet where there is either pinching of the skin or excessive pressure from poorly distributed weight-bearing forces. Common callouses of the feet are either treated palliative by reducing their thickness and/or padding by various means, or correctively, if possible, by finding and eliminating the precipitating cause. Before attempting any self-treatment, you should see a podiatrist for advice. |
