Although I would not rule out the burning sensation being of neuropathic disorder and would certainly agree that the numbness of the toe may be either a peripheral neuropathy or less likely related to a spinal problem, the redness and warmth to the touch are not associated with nerve problems.

There are at least three main causes of redness to be considered . . . local (physical) irritation, gout and infection, and each needs to be ruled in/out. As far as discomfort from ankle to knee is concerned, there are too many possibilities and too few facts from which to draw any reasonable conclusions.

As with most who write in with problems at multiple sites, the only effective method of making a diagnosis is a hands-on evaluation, and diagnoses are primary to any reasonable suggestion for treatment.

You need to see a podiatrist, as he/she should be able to evaluate your symptoms and look for finding which will result in the needed diagnoses. Forums such as this are more useful to discuss various treatment possibilities of already diagnosed disorders than for the making of diagnoses.
