As per Bernie Secoura, only an evaluation by a doctor can really accurately answer your question and supply you with a diagnosis. Your symptoms may be related to your back problems as a radiculopathy, although the area of redness and warmth is of some concern. As per Bernie Secoura, an infection presents with redness and warmth, but if left untreated I would expect the condition to be progressively worsening. There may be an underlying vascular abnormality causing the increased temperature and erythema (redness), but once again this must be assessed by your treating doctor. Are there any marks on your skin to indicate a possible insect bite that may have gone un-noticed? Additionally, the warmth and redness and burning sensation may be independent of the numbness you sometimes experience in your toes. The two sets of symptoms may or may not be related. As you can see, there are many possible scenarios that can be the cause of your symptoms which further supports Bernie Secoura's position and my position that you must be examined and evaluated by a doctor for an accurate diagnosis. Keep us filled in on your doctor's findings.
