I am 47 yrs old
I have chronic lyme disease dx'd in 1995
I have type 2 diabetes dx'd in 2005
I have had peripheral neuropathy in both lower legs/feet for more than 10 years and have been on 125 mg of Elavil nightly for 10 years
Recently my big toes [both] have become super sensitive, it hurts to wear a pair of socks. I cannot wear shoes, if I go out I wear step in, open sandals [even in winter].
I cannot tolerate anyone touching my toes or feet
I also have leg pain, mostly at night which sometimes makes it impossible to sleep
My blood sugar is being well controlled by a combination of metformin and byetta injections
blood pressure is well maintained [w/ medication]
cholesterol levels are very good [w/ medication]
weight is an issue but I have lost 40 pounds since Aug '06
[in 3 months]
I want to know what I can do to help alleviate the neuropathy pain and intolerance to touch
I have read that this is usually treated with antidepressants but I am already on a high dose of Elavil.
Will I eventually be looking at amputations?
Will I become disabled, wheelchair bound?
I do not see a podiatrist, I am on a fixed income and see an endocrinologist for all my diabetic care.
I have no health insurance.
Thanks in advance for any advice
~Sharon
