There are several new medications that may be prescribed by your endocrinologist. One is Lyrica and the other is Cymbalta. Both of these are indicated for neuropathy such as yours and the drug companies may have a program that could give you the medication for a very small payment. You may want to check out those drugs.
I can tell you from personal experience as a Podiatrist that there are some new treatments for neuroptahy of the feet, especially around the toes and ball of the foot.
The procedure is known as Cryosurgery and I have provided long lasting relief to many of my diabetics. A large portion of those treated will actully be able to sustantially reduce their medication or completely discontinue pain meds and neuropathy meds.
Being a diabetic with neuropathy does not directly mean that you will need an amputation. Many diabetics live with neuropathy and no complications. However, standard precautions should be taken.
