Thank you so much for your response!

Yes, the deformity is a result of the initial and subsequent injury to the toe-worsening after each break. The dancing while it was buddy-taped was not such a smart move, however as a junior high student at the time, wasn't thinking of the future-especially since I was able to push thru the pain for a nightly show. Ignorance was bliss, but I'm paying for it now.

Since my toe is turned sideways with the knot off to the side and not pulling up or back like photos of "traditional" hammer toes reflect, I wasn't sure what to call this. Silly, I know. I didn't want to sound like a ding-dong. Thanks for straightening me out!!

I think I knew in my heart of hearts that surgery will most likely be required--I just didn't want it to be...(yep-I'm a little nervous) An evaluation is a must. You gave me the push I needed to call a good podiatrist-any idea on where to look? I know of no one in my family (or any friends) who have needed a foot doctor. My insurance company provides a list of those in my area so I have a few names. I just don't know what questions to ask them when I get there.
