If what you have is a hammertoe, your GP simply does not know what he is talking about. Hammertoes and the corns pain and corns which commonly result are one of the most common complaints seen by footcare specialists. Though I am rarely in favor of any sort of foot surgery for solely cosmetic purposes, a hammertoe of sufficient severity is a defomity which is likely to eventulally cause painful problems, and I would probably agree to correct even one which was not particularly painful. As far as what your National Health Insurance will or will not underwrite, I would have no idea. But certainly that can be checked out with whatever agency makes those decisions. |
