About a year ago I started having short stabbing pains that felt like they originated in my left little toe. These occured almost entirely at night in bed.

There seemed to be no way I could make them happen. I never had the pains while I was up and moving around.

More recently they have been happening a lot more often, can occur on on #4 or #5 toe, or on the bottom of the ball of my foot behind the toes, or even behind that underneath the arch. The pain is severe, lasts a second or two and disappears. It can occur while walking, but is still most bothersome while I'm off my feet.

I still can't reliably make the pain occur by flexing, stretching, bending, poking and prodding, or otherwise abusing my foot. I don't see or feel any swelling or anything different from my right foot which is totally unaffected.

My wife now complains that I'm "wincing" all the time.

I suppose I am.

What's happening here?

Thanks

Doug
