What is good photography? “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” we have heard this before I am sure, but there are rules that can attract the eye and they’re called composition! Scientists have studied humans and what they are attracted to, these studies show we have some communalities to what attracts or draws us to certain images. If we know these things then we can use them in our compositions to improve our pictures. The number one rule that I live by is “the eye is the window of the sole” if you can’t see the eye it will probably not be a very attractive photo. The great thing about rules and photography is the rules are made to be broken! In general though the rules work and those that apply them to their work get published. Art can push these rules, like a statue of a lady with no arms (or a Picasso?), but generally people who are looking at a dive magazine or a photo on your wall want to get it! A lot of dry Landers don’t understand what they’re looking at any way. So you have to frame your picture in context and orientation as to make it understandable to the viewer. “A picture is wroth a thousand words” make your words count. Have them say something, tell a story, or make a point.
