Actually, yes, if something can offweight the abnormal pressure caused by the rolling in of your foot, that would help. That is why a "ring" type of pad (shaped like a donut)will help. The ideal conservative treatment would be to reduce the pronatory forces with a good orthotic. However, depending upon the amount of pronation, even a good orthosis cannot control severe pronation and the foot will pronate off the orthotic. I can't comment obviously as to how pronated your foot is, but it does make sense that if you can offload the area that was having increased friction ("pinched callus") by using a donut type callus pad directly onto the orthotic, you will get some relief and a decrease in excessive callus buildup.
I don't know if you follow my logic....sometimes it is hard to condense three semesters of lower extremity biomechanics into a few sentences. |
