I was diagnosed with what was described as a "classic" jones fracture. I am not an elite athlete. At 48 years old and a high school teacher, I was walking and my foot slipped out of my sandal and twisted under. I have been told that this type of acute jones fracture heals very slowly and I have been frustrated (very much so) at the length of time the fracture has taken to heal. My insurance company will not cover the bone stimulator because serial xrays have indicated healing, albeit slow, progressive healing. I am wondering, and my dr. is researching (he treats only about 3 or 4 jones fractures a year that are not in the elite competitive athlete) at what point he can consider this delayed union in order to get insurance coverage for the stimulator.
At this point, I am allowed to put a little weight on the foot while wearing the aircast. I am also not sure of how to judge how much weight to bear--I do not want to contribute to delaying the healing that still must happen.
