 Subject: pain in side of foot

I have a ripping sensation down the outside of my right foot just under my ankle bone. when I lean forward like streching to reach for a plug in or turn my foot inward it feels as if something is ripping it hurts but I wouldn't say painful, I feel I am doing some sort of harm that will come back to haunt me. does anyone know what this might be and should I seek medical advice? I have a severe bone spur in this foot also that has not given me problems in a few years. so I don't want any other problems.
