Where at on the bottom of your feet? Where the heel and arch meet, on the inside of your foot? I had walking/standing pain and was diagnosed with Plantars Fasciitis...but I would think your Podiatrist would have told you right off as my Podiatrist says it is one of the most common foot problems he sees (he's a military doctor, so no doubt he sees a lot of patients who have a lot of stress to the feet). He might have assumed that your own doctor had already told you that he suspected PF and neglected to give you the low down. Don't be afraid to ask questions.

Do a search on google.com for Plantars Fasciitis and see if that is the symptoms you have. Probably the 'sure tell' sign is that first step in the morning...it almost makes my knees buckle, it feels like you stepped out of bed onto a bed of razor blades. My PF is pretty advanced and I can't remember if it hurt that much when I first started having problems, but I do know that is almost a 'gimme' with PF.

Good luck to you, I'm not a doctor by any means, just someone with PF for almost a year now and did a lot of research on my own.
