Many thanks to all that made the 4th Annual Fort Hawkins Veterans Day Salute such a success today despite the rather miserable weather conditions (especially high atop Fort Hill) - with special thanks to the Nathaniel Macon Chapter N.S.D.A.R. and their Regent, Ann Wilson, and their Curator & Flag Chairman, Judy Smith, for presenting such a magnificent ceremony, and to B.S.A. Troop 911 and their Scoutmaster, Whitney Palmer, for assisting so admirably. The Fort Hawkins Commission must also thank the 12 participating patriotic organizations in this solemn and moving cewremony that concluded with a most memorable and stirring Taps by Trumpeter Extraordinarie,Ray Lawrence. Finally we thank the over 50 brave souls that did particpate today as we remembered the many veterans that have served our country at the place where the very first American Veterans served 200 years ago. Today demonstrated why, when once open as detailed in our Master Plan, everyday will be Veterans Day at the Fort Hawkins Historic Site - as it should be everyday in our blessed country! |
