FHC Friends - Hope you enjoy the photos from our "Col. Hawkins Tribute Trip" on Sunday, October 25 including the gathering at his National Monument, with Ron Wildman filming the program for Macon Cable Channel 14's "Macon Update" (and I will let you know when that is airing). As we left Roberta we passed by FHC Member David Mincey' s grand green office building and headed out to the Col.'s gravesite where the group discussed the Creek Agency and the Col.'s contributions to American history while cleaning up his memorials, adding missing stones and placing our brochures for future visitors - leaving the site better from our caring and a better appreciation for our work in telling his story. Of course, we left as we came in on the Benjamin Hawkins Road which is traditionally considered the same route as the Lower Creek Trading Path and the Federal Road which also became known as the Wire Road. This would have been the path of William Bartram's travels and remember, Hawkins had Bartram's Travels in his home library at the Agency. - Marty View photos at http://picasaweb.google.com/liwillett1/CrawfordCountyHistory?feat=email#5398130098592290738
