For those who are NOT the poster who identifies him/herself as CraigS and who do not ask merely rhetorical questions to which they supply their own prejudiced answers, the reason that many patients are intimidated by doctors is that they have, at their own volition, bought into the myth that doctors are above mere mortals, are to be placed on some sort of pedestal and that they are to be served rather than to be of service.
The questioner who had sought professional treatment for which she undoubtedly paid a generous fee wrote, "I went to see a local podiatrist who just filed my calluses and showed no interest in what I was telling her."
Now if she had gotten that sort of treatment from a plumber or a washing machine or TV repairman, would she then cower without complaint and fork over his fee? . . I think NOT.
So, if as a doctor myself, I point this out in hopes that the questioner will wake up and smell the coffee and realize who is the employer and who is the employed, I hardly think that constitutes arrogance . . but rather the diametric opposite. |
