Wow - thanks everyone. Good (I think :-) to hear people have similar pain problems.
The article that Barbara pointed to suggests that the pain is caused by excessive stress on the tendons on the top of the foor. That's certainly what my pain feels like.
I also found some information on a similar problem relating to how you sit at work. I didn't save the link, but it basically mentioned that people with shorter legs (like me!) who sit in office chairs often move their feet backwards as they don't reach the floor properly. I do this with my right foot (the one with pain), so all the weight is on my toes, pushing my foot up towards my leg and, I guess putting pressure on my tendons.
I sit at work for 6 or 7 hours a day and when I do this, it certainly feels like there is pressure on the area of pain.
I'm going to try and stop doing this and do those calf stretches, and see how I go.. I'll post an update.
