I have the same thing on my left foot. Only I have had it off and on for more than two years. Sometimes the pain lasts for more than a month other times only a week or two. I have not found that reduced exercise helps (due to injuries sustained in a car accident I was unable to run for more than 6 months and I had problems with my left foot during that time).
The first time I had the pain on the top outside of my left foot (there is also a lump there that is larger than the lump on my right side and is tender to the touch) was 7 years ago. I was told it was a stress fracture and was put in an air cast for 2 weeks. That worked great. But the exact same pain came back almot 3 years ago and has been off and on since then. I guess I need to see the doctor again. What have you found out?

I am glad to see your questions as I'm having the same problem. Mine is on the left side, and it continues to hurt all day but is definately most painful after laying down for a period of time. I don't hear any noises in my foot but it does feel a little better after I start moving. I've been looking at descriptions of arthritis, gout, Plantar Fasciitis, Morton's Neuroma, etc, etc and none of them seem to match the symptoms we're all describing. Please let me know if anyone finds a knowledgeable resource.
